Rubber Tree (Ficus Elastica Burgundy) The rubber plant or ficus elastica, is a species of plant in the fig genus native to north Eastern India and surrounding regions, this plant was dubbed "The Rubber Plant" due to it's sticky latex sap that was discovered to dry into a low quality rubber, the ficus elastica enjoys moderate to bright indirect sunlight, it's deep purple and green leaves have a waxy coat that provides a beautiful glossy sheen. new growth often also exhibits shades of pink within the veins, making this a colorful, yet elegant statement plant with proper lighting and watering habits the rubber plant will grow quickly, often doubling in size within a year. -------- Light requirements: prefers bright indirect light, but is adaptable to medium light conditions. Monstera Deliciosa Monstera deliciosa is native to the rain forests of Mexico and Central America, it's young leaves are smaller with no lobes or holes, but produce their famed perforated leaves as they mature, as a sub-canopy plant, monsteras are tolerant of lower light conditions, but will grow more quickly and evenly in bright indirect light, stands 2-3 tall, nursery pot diameter is 10" medium light, this plant will do best in a bright location with mostly indirect light. Philodendron Cordatum The philodendron cordatum, or heart leafed philodendron, is a trailing plant native to Southeast Brazil, often mistaken for photos, this plant is epiphytic and has a solid green heart shaped leaves that trail and grow long, the philodendron cordatum pairs well with a hanging planter or can be placed on a table or shelf, this plant can be propagated easily, take a clipping, stick it in water and watch it grow! -------- Light requirements: prefers bright indirect light, but can tolerate medium and low light spaces. Water requirements: be sure to water your plants upon delivery, water when the top 2-3 of the soil are dry, or just as the leaves begin to curl and droop, allow soil to dry fully between waterings in the winter months. Sansevieria Sansevieria is a genius of about 70 species of flowering plants native to Africa, Madagascar and Southern Asia within this genus species vary greatly, ranging from desert succulents to thinner leafed tropical plants, the sansevieria is commonly referred to as the snake plant or mother-in-law's tongue and will grow in a wide range of lighting conditions from low indirect light, to direct sunlit spaces, sansevieria thrives on neglect, having earned its nickname as the "unkillable" plant, however it's sensitive to overwatering, which can cause this plant to rot. -------- Light requirements: prefers bright light, but is extremely adaptable to low light conditions. Water requirements: be sure to water your plant upon delivery, sansevieria like dry soil and will rot when too much moisture is present, if soil is dry and beginning to pull away from the planter walls and the sansevieria leaves are beginning to wrinkle,, it is time to water. ZZ Plant (Zamioculcas Zamiifolia) Zamioculcas zamiifolia, better known and more easily pronounced as the ZZ plant, is one of the hardest plants to kill, in fact it's so tenacious that the ZZ can regenerate itself from a single leaf cutlet, the ZZ's deep green, glossy leaves have a unique spread that look great on their own or in a cluster of plants, the ZZ prefers bright indirect light, but can grow in low light conditions, the only real environmental concern is to make sure it doesn't get cold, keep the temperature above 65?F and make sure to water it only when the soil is dry, and you'll enjoy this plant for years to come. -------- Light requirements: prefers bright indirect light but is extremely adaptable to low light condition. Water requirements: be sure to water your plant upon delivery, ZZ prefer the soil to dry about 1/2 way down the pot between watering, do not let the soil dry completely, but also be cautious not to over water, moderation is key, Humidity preference: ZZ like humidity, however they are tolerant of dry spaces. Benefits: thrives with neglect, the ZZ is the perfect plant to the forgetful or often-traveling plant parent, ther prefer minimal interaction, and can go several weeks without water before showing sign of thirst. Phalaenopsis Orchid Temperature: phalaenopsis orchids enjoy a fairly warm climate, the ideal night temperature is 62 to 65 degrees F, and daytime temperature range of 70 to 80 degrees, since this temperature range is similar to that of many homes, it makes an ideal house plant. Light and shade: phalaenopsis orchids do not require too much light to grow well. 1000-1500 foot candles is the ideal light intensity required for phalaenopsis, if grown in a windowsill, an east exposure proves to be the best, one must take care, though, not to burn the plant by allowing too much sunlight to shine directly on the plant, it is best to provide some shade, such as sheer curtain, allowing perhaps a little more light to hit the plants form the beginning of december through the middle of February. -------- Watering: water your phalaenopsis orchids early in the morning, this insures complete evaporation on the foliage as well as the crown by nightfall, water with rain, distilled or reverse-osmosis water as the mix approaches dryness, never use water that has been softened by a water softener, generally phalaenopsis require watering about once every 4 to 7 days, plants should never stand in water, plants that stand in water or that are watered in the evening will develop bacterial or fungal rot, pull out the plant label and see if there is any water residue on it, if not, it is time for watering, the weight of the pot can also help determine whether it needs watering or not, the pot should be fairly heavy after watering. Feeding: we highly recommend green jungle orchid foods, especially formulated to work with rain, distilled, reverse osmosis water or water low in alkalinity, if the plant is potted in bark, fertilize with green jungle every time you water, all year round, then flush with clear water once a month, if potted in sphagnum moss, use green jungle every third watering, this is the fertilizer that we developed and use on our own plants, the results have been excellent, for tap or well water, use grow more 20-10-20 fertilizer every other watering in the summer and every third watering in the winter, fertilize at the rate of 1/2 teaspoon per gallon. Humidity: phalaenopsis orchids are of a monopodial growth without any pseudobulbs to help store moisture for this reason, it is important to provide good humidity, 50-70% is considered ideal, however, if the plant kept well watered it will adapt to a lower humidity. Flowering: commonly referred to as the "moth orchid", phalaenopsis are one of the longest blooming orchid genera, producing flowers that last from 2 to 6 months before dropping, phalaenopsis have also been known to bloom 2 to 3 times per year once they have reached a mature size, after it has flower bloomed, from the top node a new flower stem should emerge within 2 months, if there is no response or the flower spike turns brown, cut it off near the base of the plant where it emerged.
